Intramuscular Injection

An intramuscular injection, often abbreviated IM, is a technique used to deliver medication deep into the muscles. This allows the medication to be absorbed into the bloodstream quickly.  Since muscles have larger and more numerous blood vessels than subcutaneous tissue, IM injections usually have faster rates of absorption. This allows the medication to be absorbed into the bloodstream more directly and can cause immediate results.
